Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Substance abuse among teenagers has become a growing concern in many communities across Nigeria, including Misau Local Government Area (LGA) in Bauchi State. Community radio, as an accessible and influential medium, has the potential to play a significant role in combating substance abuse by raising awareness, educating the public, and promoting healthy behaviors. This study explores the role of community radio in addressing substance abuse among teenagers in Misau LGA, focusing on the effectiveness of radio programs in preventing and reducing substance abuse among the youth.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Substance abuse among teenagers in Misau LGA is a serious issue that has led to various social, health, and psychological challenges. Despite efforts to combat the problem, there is a lack of comprehensive studies on the role of community radio in addressing substance abuse in the area. This study seeks to assess the effectiveness of community radio in raising awareness and combating substance abuse among teenagers in Misau LGA.

1. Substance Abuse: The harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.
2. Community Radio: A radio station that serves a specific local community, focusing on issues of local interest and community development.
3. Teenagers: Individuals between the ages of 13 and 19, who are in the adolescent stage of development.
